Specialised translations

As a specialized translator, I translate technical, specialized texts. Technical translation is a branch of translation that focuses on documents with technical, scientific, medical, legal and financial content, to name but a few. In this area of translation, having a thorough knowledge of the subject matter, and the terminology and jargon specific to each field is essential.

Instruction manuals are a common example of documents that require accurate and rigorous technical translations. These documents often contain specific and detailed technical terminology, and mistranslations may well lead to errors in how the final user operates and understands the full potential of the product acquired.

Websites are another area where technical translation is crucial, and even more so in the context of business globalization, where there is an ever-increasing need to reach international audiences. Translating a website involves taking factors into account such as SEO, cultural adaptation and localization to ensure that the core message is properly-understood by the target audience.

Legal and financial texts are other examples of documents that also require specialized technical translation. These texts contain specific legal and financial terminology that must be translated accurately so as to avoid misunderstandings and potentially-adverse legal or financial consequences.

In addition to the above examples, there are many other areas where technical translation is required, such as in software user manuals, technical specifications, technical and engineering reports, market studies, medical reports, and many others. Each of these fields has its own specific terminologies and requirements, and these factors all go to make translation a challenging and highly specialized task.
